ABOUT

Andrew Wigg Profile Photo

Hi, my name is Andrew Wigg (or as I'm mostly known Wiggy).

I just wanted to say a few things about myself here so that you can get to know a little bit more about me and why I have created this blog and undertaken this challenge.

About Me

Really, I'm just a normal Aussie guy, nothing flash, nothing fancy.. but I believe that we can always be so much more.

From a physical sense, the only limits a person has is those they impose on themselves and they can easily be dispelled if you can find the key. For me, I grew up playing sports, tennis, soccer, basketball.. Anything and everything I could play I did, but even though I was fit, had focus and often succeeded, I wasn't really strong. (Either mentally or physically) It wasn't until my late 20's that I found true fitness strength.. running a lot and competing in my biggest event to date, the 6 foot track, I began to understand how amazing the human body was and how strong my mind could be under adverse conditions.

Since then I've known how strong I am and how strong I can be, but like most people I go through ups and downs in focus and fitness and I never really found that again until last year. Sure, I've been fit, doing sport, but I haven't had that drive, that hunger, that purpose. Helped a lot by enlisting the support of Rapid Personal Training, I back on track and smashing anything in my way to get fit.

About This Challenge

For years now I've been competing in events, from fun runs to marathons, and I always try to raise a bit of money for various different charities.. Nothing specific because there's so many worthy causes, and it's hard because I do a bit, but if I can help others in any way I always try to do so.

For me though, the events stopped being a challenge, I'd been there and done that. I needed more! After Rapid Personal Training helped me to get fit in a record time and do a PB in the SMH Half Marathon last year, I was hungry for more.

That's when I discovered the Sir David Martin Foundation last year - a charity for disadvantaged youths. A friends wife had participated in the Abseil for Youth the year before and posted the details on Facebook. In the blink of an eye I was there! What an amazing and unique experience it was! I've got no fear of heights, nothing to prove (except inexperience and desire) but still it was one of the most unique experiences of my life. It was beautiful, it was surreal, it was amazing.

About the same time I saw information on the Kokoda Track and there was a glint in my eye. Kokoda not only has such an important place in Australian Military history, but the track is extraordinarily challenging. I'm not sure that I could ever be as brave, determined, unselfish and sacrificing as those men and women that protect our Country, but I can try at least try to show my respect, travel some of their footsteps, and in what better way than to help the Sir David Martin Foundation?

What Do I Want Out Of This Journey

Me, I want to help make a difference. As I said before, I'm just normal, but The Sir David Martin Foundation has given me the opportunity to challenge myself and achieve more and I am determined to do that to my best ability!

I know the Kokoda Track will be my hardest challenge to date, but it will be the ultimate satisfaction not only to complete it, but also in the process be a great support to so many disadvantaged Australian youths.

Please Enjoy

Enjoy the blog, enjoy the experience.. I am inspired to about this challenge and would like to take you on this journey with me through this blog. I'm not sure about the connectivity, but I hope to post videos and pictures of the experience. Super excited, super pumped!

Share My Vision And Help Make A Difference

Every single dollar helps! Established in 1991, the Sir David Martin Foundation funds effective programs to help the most marginalised and troubled young Australians turn their lives around. Not only do they offer much-needed care and rehabilitation to young people struggling with issues such as homelessness, substance addiction, mental illness, abuse, crime and social isolation, they also provide them with life skills, education and vocational training.

Please share this vision with me, share any links, comment on posts, be part of this journey and if you can please donate, your donation can make a real difference.

Thanks,

Wiggy
